EXECUTIVE SUMMARY:
Since 1960, American Public Works Association (APWA) has sponsored National Public Works Week. Across the nation, National Public Works Week (NPWW) calls attention to the importance of public works in community life. The week seeks to raise public awareness of the often-unsung heroes of our society: The professionals who serve the public good every day with quiet dedication. The San Diego Unified Port District wishes to show its support for APWA.

Recommendation
Adopt a Resolution proclaiming May 20-26, 2018 National Public Works Week at the San Diego Unified Port District.

DISCUSSION:
National Public Works Week (NPWW) is a celebration of the tens of thousands of men and women in North America who provide and maintain the infrastructure and services collectively known as public works. Since 1960, American Public Works Association (APWA) has sponsored NPWW. Across the nation, NPWW calls attention to the importance of public works in community life. The week seeks to raise public awareness of the often-unsung heroes of our society: The professionals who serve the public good every day with quiet dedication. The San Diego Unified Port District wishes to show its support for the APWA. APWA has selected "Power of Public Works" as its theme for 2018's NPWW, which will be celebrated May 20-26, 2018.
